Dune and Moon, Death Valley, was made on a day when I wanted to find something that would be very simple, with the least amount of elements possible. It was a kind of a “project from within” as Ansel used to say. It was fairly early morning, almost time to consider retreating from the heat, when I came across this wonderful, simple, swooping dune. Nearing its base, and looking nearly straight to the Zenith, I also saw the simple ‘exclamation point’ formed by the waning gibbous moon. A deep yellow (#12) filter was used, as well as a Polarizer, to render the clear morning sky
the dark value seen here.
